Opioid ED Visits Research in BMC Public Health (September 2019)

A study by John Litaker, PhD et al, published in BMC Public Health in September 2019, demonstrated the value of using health insurance claims data to assess the impact of the opioid crisis on emergency department use in Central Texas. Since the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) declared the opioid crisis in the United States to be a public health emergency in October 2017, some local leaders and public health officials across the country have sought avenues to quantify the extent of the opioid crisis in their communities.
